You can change. you can be better. Begin right where you are, whenever you choose. start with simple activities. For example:
1. Do something you don't want to do.
2. Do something you want to do.
3. Spend a few minutes every day in meditation.
4. Be of benefit to someone else every day.
5. Make a list of things you like to do, things you want to do and things you have done successfully in the past.
6. Set a goal for yourself.
7. Turn off the TV and read a good book.
8. Break a habit, any habit.
9. Do something constructive to make yourself a better person.
Do whatever it takes to get started. Take a concrete step toward achieving whatever goal you choose. People who know what they want suddenly find their life filled with opportunities. A compelling purpose makes it easier to develop the discipline require to build good habits. And good habits will propel you toward achieving your goal.
Commit yourself to action now. But don't expect miracles. Don't expect a turnaround. The habits that control how you currently use your time were not developed overnight. Change is not likely to occur overnight either. Only steady, persistent effort brings about change.
Furthermore, realize that you will never be able to control 100 percent of your time. There are some parts of the day which you simply will never be able to control. If you consistently control even 25-30 percent of your day, you can achieve a significant increase in results. Most people waste at least an hour or two each day. recovering this time would be well worth the effort.
What might you do with an extra hour each day for the really important things? An hour a day might get you through that work you normally carry home each evening. It may be all the time you need to launch that project you have not yet implemented. It may give you an opportunity to develop your staff. As one executive put it, "The difference between success and failure is probably no more than one or two hours each day."
